Kate’s guide to key homeopathic remedies for grief

The following remedies are extremely useful in situations of acute grief. Please see each remedy description and find the one which best matches your symptoms.

Aconite

An excellent remedy for the initial shock of finding out the news of the grief - there may be shaking from fear. This remedy works best at onset, quickly after symptoms appear.

Arnica montana

Another excellent remedy for the initial shock or trauma of grief. Individuals will often say they feel “fine ” on the surface, even though they are deeply unsettled within. They may want to avoid physical comfort or touch.

Ignatia

There may be silent grief or hysteria/ emotional overwhelm with lots of sobbing, perhaps oscillating between the two. Symptoms can be changeable and even contradictory, and there can be a contrary element to the individual’s mood. The individual may sigh and yawn frequently.

Pulsatilla

The individual is easily tearful in their grief. They can feel a strong sense of abandonment from the loss of the loved one. As such they feel much better for the comfort and company of others – they almost crave it. There may be little or no thirst.

Natrum muriaticum (Nat mur)

The individual can feel withdrawn and wants to avoid the company of others. They are private emotionally and prefer to hide their tears. They may crave salty food during this time.
